About the National Library Project:
In 1937 the National Library Project was established by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated as the first national program. The project initially involved putting together book baskets that were taken to various schools in the Jim Crow South. The first school to receive a book basket was in Franklin County, North Carolina. Over the years the National Library Project has taken on many different forms to meet the needs of various communities. This has included continuing efforts with book baskets, contributing to community libraries, and purchasing a bookmobile that provided books to African-American communities in Carroll County, Georgia.
Recognizing the needs in our very own service area, the Burlington Alumnae Chapter has chosen to sponsor a children’s book fair featuring authors of color, illustrators of color, and celebrating the arts and artists in our community.
