Delta Sigma Theta's National Arts and Letters Commission
The National Commission on Arts & Letters was established in 1973 under the presidency of 15th National President Lillian Pierce Benbow. The Burlington Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Arts & Letters Committee is aligned with the National Commission of Arts & Letters. Our mission is to spark a love for the arts by creating programs that celebrate, elevate, and advance Black Arts. We are dedicated to cultivating culturally rich environments that beautifully reflects the Black experience and its invaluable contributions across various artistic mediums. We aim to foster a deeper appreciation and connection to the arts within our community.
The Burlington Alumnae Chapter (BAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., hosted by the Arts and Letters Committee, is excited to announce its 2025 Art Supplies Drive benefiting Western Alamance Middle School in Elon, NC. Running from February 1 to March 31, 2025, the drive invites community members to donate art supplies to support creative learning for local students.
We will accept the following items at the drop-off locations and events listed below: Oil Pastels, Color Chalk (Chalk Pastels), Color Pencils, Prang Watercolor Paints, Watercolor Cases, Watercolor Brushes, Paint Brushes (short handle), Soft-Kut Printing Blocks (for linocut), Flood Floetrol (for mixing with acrylic paint), Acrylic Paint, Metallic Acrylic Paint, Modge Podge, Any size Canvases with Wooden Back, Liquitex Modeling Paste, Oval 1/2 pans, and Sketch Books
The Arts and Letters Committee of Burlington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is partnering with Alamance County Public Libraries to host the 2025 African American Read-In on February 15, 2025 at 3PM. This event follows the tradition of the National African American Read-Ins established by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English in 1990 to encourage people to read together and celebrate African American authors.
This event is free and opened to the community. Bring a friend and read an excerpt from your favorite African American author or listen as others read. Books and other literary selections will be available.
