GEMS: Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully

We are pleased to invite you to participate in our 2024-2025 Delta GEMS program.

GEMS is an acronym for Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully that provides a vehicle of change for young African American women between the ages of 14 and 18 to enhance their abilities and increase their self-worth, in order to achieve academic and Black girl excellence. The goals of Delta GEMS are to:


  • Instill the need to excel academically
  • Provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success
  • Assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for the futures in high school and beyond
  • Create compassionate, caring, and community-minded young women by actively involving them in service learning and community service opportunities

Application deadlines:

Our application deadline is Monday, October 7!

The following criteria will be used to determine eligibility:

  • Reside in one of the following counties: Alamance, Caswell, Guilford (i.e., Gibsonville, McCleansville, Sedalia, Whitsett), or Rockingham
  • Be a current high school student (grades 9-12)
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA

A virtual orientation and mandatory risk management training for the parents and guardians of our GEMS participants will occur on October 12, 2024, from 10 am to 12 pm.

Running from November 2024 to May 2025, this year's program will primarily occur on second Saturdays from 10 am to noon in Burlington, NC. We look forward to hosting our first session on Nov. 9.
